Last week a group known as REvil launched a cyber attack that ensnared between 800-1500 businesses. The group is demanding nearly $70 milling in funds to unlock data that was caught in the attack. If your company keeps any information in the cloud or with email servers, here are some tips that you can implement immediately to help protect your business from cyber attacks:
1. Look into third party cloud based backup systems like Carbonite, i-Drive or Barracuda. These systems can put your data on auto backup incase of a loss of data, allowing you to restore easily. If the cost of these systems is too much, then consider doing weekly or daily backups to a local device.
2. Talk to your insurance agent about adding cyber insurance to your liability policy. These policies can assist with the cost of restoring your systems if you do get hacked.
3. Get your computer support team in ASAP to review your weaknesses and strengths in your IT infrastructure. This should be done at least annually.
4. Have monthly or quarterly meetings with staff to discuss phishing emails.
